Spring is right around the corner! I can see it all throughout my garden, most things are in bloom and all the trees have new leaves. I’m sowing new seeds and amending all the beds for the new growing season.
Back in 2019 I had just began to blend tea flavors. I was new to the whole process and had a million ideas that I was struggling to bring to reality. My brainstorming notebook was packed full of flavors I had no idea of achieving. The Idea of Flower Power was one of them, originally it was going to be an herbal tea with a few medicinal flowers to focus on relaxation and immune support. This would have been the case if I had actually launched a Spring Collection last year. (Covid had other plans) The uncertainty of last year led me to skip the Spring Collection and delay the launch of the Summer Collection.
Coming into 2021 I revisited the Flower Power blend and decided it needed some “power”. So I added Yerba Mate and Organic Gunpowder Green Tea, both are packed with caffeine. Yerba Mate is an herb found in Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay and consumed heavily in those regions. It is essentially a “clean” coffee alternative that is packed with nutrients like Vitamin A, Vitamin B complex, Vitamin C, Inositol, Manganese, Calcium and Zinc. In addition to that there are claims that Yerba Mate improves mental function and clarity.
Spring gives me green vibes. When the snow begins to melt and those first hints of green peek through its a sign of a fresh start, a new beginning, a sunnier disposition. So I knew for sure I had to highlight a green tea blend in this collection. Enter Green Apple Ginger, I first started playing with this blend last year with all the extra time I had on my hands (lockdown), but couldn’t quite get the ratios down. Too much ginger, or not enough ginger, only tasting green tea or it coming across too bitter. I left it alone for a few months and upon revisiting this blend I figured out what it was missing. Red Raspberry Leaf, I know right, Raspberry leaf? It works though, it gives the apples an elevated tartness and kinda rounds off all the components of this blend.
Flowers. Flowers blooming in spring are so light and delicate just like the Chamo-Rose blend herbal tea. Chamomile is such a classic tea and it blends so easily with almost anything. Then roses add an unmistakable aroma along with benefits like antioxidants, calming nerves, calming menstrual cramps, and alleviating headaches. Those are internal benefits, but most of you know that both Chamomile and Roses are good for your skin. This tea can be added to your bath for silky, nourished skin. It can be used for facial steaming for added softness and hydration, and my personal favorite is it used as a v steam because chamomile is a gentle analgesic and antiseptic and rose supports uterus health.
And there it is, a thorough introduction of the Spring Collection from KayTeas and Herb Co. Time has proven to be my friend with this Collection because it is truly some of my best work to date. Which flavor are you most likely to try?
